About Steve Brotherton

Steve Brotherton was not only a respected figure in our industry but also a beloved friend, mentor, and colleague to many. His passion, dedication, and profound impact on the field were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Steve Brotherton, 74, of Micanopy, Florida passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023 after a long illness.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Vern and Rose Criswell, and his parents, Hank and Shirley Brotherton. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lin, step-daughters Kathy (Michael, Lauren, and Andrew) and Susan (George), sisters Leslie (Trace) and Kristi, and brother Scott.

Steve graduated from the University of Florida in 1974 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. In May 1978 he co-founded an automotive repair shop, Continental Imports, with Walter Bodendorf. He was certified as an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Technician in 1973. He pursued a lifelong passion in educating and mentoring his fellow automotive technicians all around the world via industry organizations iATN and BIMRS.

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on an important and meaningful event that took place during the 2023 BIMRS Conference – the Steve Brotherton Memorial Service. Steve Brotherton was not only a respected figure in our industry but also a beloved friend, mentor, and colleague to many. His passion, dedication, and profound impact on the field were felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The Memorial Service was a heartfelt tribute to Steve’s life and legacy. It was a time for all of us to come together, share our memories, and pay our respects. The service was a beautiful and touching reminder of the close-knit community that defines our industry. Thank you for being a part of this meaningful memorial service. Together, we honor the life and contributions of Steve Brotherton.
